Construction to renovate Cox Boulevard is scheduled to start around the first of December. Crews will be putting out signs, striping and barriers to divert traffic onto two lanes while construction on the other two lanes is done. Speed limits will be reduced. Please drive carefully. Midsouth Paving, Inc. was awarded the contract for construction with a low bid of $2,523,849.49. The Civil Group LLC was selected to provide construction engineering and inspection on the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation will provide oversight and review to ensure that Federal Highway Administration and State of Alabama regulations are complied with and issue payments to the contractor. Norfolk Southern will oversee construction related to their tracks. The total cost of the project is estimated at $3,414,099.70. The City of Sheffield's contribution of matching funds is $682,819.94 which has been paid to ALDOT. 110 working days are allowed to complete construction. Days with rain and/or cold temperatures do not count as working days and the duration of the project is as difficult to predict as the weather. When completed, the road will be three lanes with bike lanes on each side and a sidewalk on the east side.
