Sheffield City Government

The city of Sheffield has a mayor-council form of government involving a mayor and five council members. The mayor is elected at large with the council members elected from their respective districts. Elections are held every four years and terms are not staggered, meaning the possibility exists for the city of Sheffield to have a completely new governing body after an election.

Mayor and City Council members can be reached by telephone at (256) 383-0250. Mail should be addressed to P.O. Drawer Q, Sheffield, AL 35660. Fax number is (256) 386-5602.

City Hall is located at 600 North Montgomery Avenue and houses the following offices: Mayor's office, City Clerk's office, Building and License Department, Court Clerk and City Court, as well as the Sheffield Police Department. City Hall office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. City Council meetings are held in the city court room each month on the first and third Mondays. Work sessions begin at 5:00 PM with the council meeting starting at 6:00 PM. The public is welcome at all city council meetings.
